Pitcairn Island 1 Silver Dollar Bounty Mutiny, 1989.

Island Silver Dollar Bounty
Pitcairn Island 1 Silver Dollar Bounty Mutiny, 1989.

Issued for the 200th anniversary of the Mutiny on the HMAV Bounty. Proof silver crown, with the Bounty on the reverse. Coin only.

Pitcairn Island is where the mutineers from HMAV Bounty actually went. After they had landed their supplies and equipment, the ship was burned and sunk to prevent anyone from leaving. The island was mislocated on the British maps (charts), so the island was not re-discovered by other sailors until the 1820s. By then, only one of the original mutineers was still alive. Descendants of the mutineers still live on the island.
